CASE STUDY
Electronics Component Manufacturer Requires Low Compression Force EMI Shielding Gasket

THE CHALLENGE

A globally recognized electronics component manufacturer was having service issues with their current supplier. They needed to switch suppliers and find an EMI shielding gasket that offered a low-compression force, high performance all within a cost-efficient material solution that could be easily cut into parts.
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

This electronic component required the profile of the EMI gasket to be cut and wrapped around a connector. The EMI gasket must be low closure force and easily die cut into standard sizes.
KEY CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS

  • Low compression force
  • Reliable performance over many cycles
  • Material must be easy to convert into cut parts
  • Must compress against backplane at low closure force
CONCLUSION

Parker Chomerics SOFT-SHIELD 3500 series fabric over foam EMI gasket provided the customer with better performance over the life of their project. Parker Chomerics was also able to offer the electronics component manufacturer better service and a larger variety of solutions than their previous supplier.
THE SOLUTION

The recommended solution for this electronics component manufacturer was to use a Parker Chomerics SOFT-SHIELD 3500 series fabric over foam EMI gasket in a similar profile to the current competitor’s part.

The customer was pleased with the service Parker Chomerics offered and switched their business. Parker Chomerics was also able to come up with different solutions for future business, including an extruded elastomer solution as a backup if operating temperature requirements are increased by the customer.
